BREAKING: PETER OBI QUITS ADC AMID RISING POLITICAL TENSION

Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has announced his departure from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), blaming growing internal disputes and what he described as an increasingly hostile political climate.

In a statement shared on his X account on Sunday, the former Anambra State governor spoke about the challenges facing Nigeria’s political system and the pressure placed on political figures.

Obi clarified that his decision to leave the party was not based on personal disagreements with prominent ADC figures such as National Chairman David Mark or former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, both of whom he said he still holds in high regard.

He explained that repeated internal disagreements, legal battles, and external interference within the party influenced his decision, adding that the situation was beginning to resemble the difficulties he experienced during his time in the Labour Party.

According to Obi, political actors and state institutions were contributing to tensions capable of destabilising opposition parties and creating unnecessary distractions from important national issues.

The former governor also lamented what he called a political culture where sincerity, humility, and genuine service are often misunderstood or attacked. He noted that despite efforts made by him and his supporters, they were frequently criticised and unfairly blamed.

Obi insisted that his political journey has never been about occupying powerful offices, but about helping to build a fair and functional country.

He stated that his main concern remains the creation of a Nigeria where justice, compassion, and equal opportunities are available to every citizen.

Although he has exited the ADC, Obi maintained that he remains committed to national progress and still believes that positive change is possible in the country.

Reports have also linked Obi to possible political realignments ahead of future elections, including speculations of a partnership involving former Kano State governor Rabiu Kwankwaso.
