The National Chairman,
All Progressives Congress (APC),
National Secretariat,
Abuja.
Dear Sir,
PETITION AGAINST THE ALLEGED IMPOSITION OF A CONSENSUS CANDIDATE FOR KANO CENTRAL SENATORIAL DISTRICT AND REQUEST FOR DIRECT PRIMARIES
We respectfully express grave concern regarding the process surrounding the emergence of former Governor Ibrahim Shekarau as the alleged consensus candidate for the Kano Central Senatorial ticket of the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Many party stakeholders and supporters do not consider the arrangement a genuine consensus freely negotiated and voluntarily accepted by all aspirants.
Several aspirants were reportedly pressured to withdraw from the contest under warnings that refusal to step down could be interpreted as anti-party conduct. This has created the widespread impression that the outcome had already been predetermined before consultations were concluded.

The development has generated growing frustration and disaffection among party members, grassroots supporters and political stakeholders across Kano Central who invested substantial time, resources and mobilisation efforts in anticipation of transparent direct primaries.
We respectfully submit that consensus arrangements can only strengthen party unity when they are voluntary, transparent and mutually accepted without pressure or perceived imposition.
Any process viewed otherwise risks weakening confidence in the party and creating avoidable divisions ahead of the 2027 elections.
Kano remains one of Nigeria’s most politically strategic states where grassroots participation, party cohesion and transparent internal democracy are critical to electoral success.
Many supporters now feel discouraged that aspirants they mobilised behind were unable to test their popularity through an open democratic process.
We respectfully submit that direct primaries remain the most credible and democratic mechanism for resolving competing interests fairly while strengthening the legitimacy of the eventual candidate and preserving party unity.
In the interest of fairness, democratic credibility and electoral stability, we humbly urge the national leadership of the APC to:
Review the circumstances surrounding the alleged consensus arrangement in Kano Central;
Ensure all aspirants and stakeholders are treated fairly and transparently in accordance with democratic principles;
Approve the conduct of transparent direct primaries for the Kano Central Senatorial ticket.
We believe this remains the best path toward restoring stakeholder confidence, preserving party unity and strengthening APC’s electoral position in Kano Central ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Yours faithfully,
Concerned APC Stakeholders
Kano Central Senatorial District
