Political activities ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State are gathering momentum, with multiple political parties already witnessing a growing list of aspirants competing for their tickets.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) currently leads in numbers, with 11 prominent figures declaring interest in the governorship race. Among them are former minister Adebayo Adelabu, former deputy governor Rauf Olaniyan, Senator Fatai Buhari, Senator Sarafadeen Alli, and several other political actors seeking to secure the party’s nomination for the Agodi Government House.

Within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), three aspirants have officially joined the contest, including Amofin Beulah Adeoye, former deputy governor Hazeem Gbolarumi, and Mogaji Kayode Ogunsola, as the party begins early mobilisation ahead of its primaries.
In the African Democratic Congress (ADC), five aspirants have also picked up nomination forms, including former APC governorship aspirant and ex-Commissioner for Health, Dr. Azeez Adeduntan, who recently switched parties, alongside other notable contenders such as human rights lawyer Niyi Aborisade.

Other parties are also beginning to shape their line-ups. The Accord party has attracted notable figures including broadcaster Oriyomi Hamzat and former Commissioner of Police Fatai Owoseni, while the Allied Peoples Movement has presented former Commissioner for Finance Bimbo Adekanmbi as a governorship hopeful.

The Nigeria Democratic Congress is still finalising preparations before commencing the sale of nomination forms, according to party officials.
The growing number of aspirants across parties reflects intensified political positioning in Oyo State ahead of the 2027 elections, as politicians and stakeholders prepare for the race to succeed Governor Seyi Makinde at the end of his tenure.
