The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, has received an Award of Excellence from the Nigerian Institute of Physics in recognition of his leadership achievements, professional contributions, and role in strengthening national security and technological development.

The award was presented during the 47th Annual Conference of the Nigerian Institute of Physics held at Lead City University. The conference, themed “Smart Physics: A New Perspective for Technological Advancement,” brought together academics, researchers, government officials, scientists, and industry experts focused on innovation and national development.

Speaking at the event, the President of the Institute, Professor Joseph Coker, described Air Marshal Aneke’s appointment as the 23rd Chief of the Air Staff as a reflection of his professionalism, competence, and intellectual capacity.
He noted that the Air Chief, who studied Physics at the Nigerian Defence Academy, has applied analytical thinking and problem-solving skills associated with the discipline in addressing Nigeria’s security challenges.

Professor Coker also praised the leadership of the Nigerian Air Force under Air Marshal Aneke, stressing the importance of physics and technological innovation in national growth and security advancement.
In remarks delivered on his behalf by the Chief of Civil-Military Relations, Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet, the Air Chief expressed gratitude to the Institute for the recognition.

He stated that the honour highlights the importance of physics in shaping precision, logic, and effective decision-making in both leadership and military operations.
According to him, the Nigerian Air Force continues to apply scientific concepts such as aerodynamics, thermodynamics, and electromagnetism to improve operational efficiency and safeguard Nigeria’s territorial integrity.

The conference also included the conferment of fellowships on distinguished members of the Institute, alongside a keynote presentation by Professor Uzodinma Chukwuma of Olabisi Onabanjo University.
