TRUMP-XI SUMMIT ENDS WARMLY BUT WITHOUT MAJOR BREAKTHROUGH

U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping have wrapped up a high-level summit in Beijing that focused on major global and bilateral issues, though no detailed agreements were officially announced.

Trump said several long-standing issues between the United States and China were addressed during the talks, describing the discussions as productive and suggesting the relationship between both countries remains stable for now.

However, no concrete policy breakthroughs were confirmed on key areas such as trade, energy, or security.

One of the major discussion points was Iran. Trump stated that both leaders agreed Iran should not be allowed to develop nuclear weapons. He also remarked that the United States does not require the Strait of Hormuz to be opened to the same extent as China, signaling differing strategic priorities.

Chinese officials, meanwhile, maintained that the conflict involving Iran should never have escalated and reiterated their longstanding position on the issue.

The Taiwan issue also featured prominently in the talks. Xi Jinping reportedly warned that Taiwan remains the most sensitive matter in U.S.-China relations and cautioned that mishandling it could lead to serious consequences.

Despite the tensions, U.S. officials, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, reaffirmed that Washington’s position on Taiwan remains unchanged.

On trade relations, Trump hinted at potential economic progress, including possible energy-related arrangements, but no formal deals were confirmed by either side following the summit.

While both leaders expressed cautious optimism, analysts noted that many of the underlying disputes between Washington and Beijing remain unresolved.
