Nafisat Hammed, the former wife of Nollywood actor Akin Olaiya, has publicly addressed the end of their marriage, offering her perspective on the relationship that lasted less than a year.
The couple exchanged vows on June 29, 2025, in a widely celebrated ceremony that drew attention from fans, colleagues, and members of the entertainment industry. However, news of their separation later emerged after the actor confirmed that the marriage had come to an end.
In his earlier account, Olaiya explained that both of them had planned to attend an event in Lagos together. He claimed that Nafisat later decided against attending and that upon his return home from the event, he discovered she had moved out without prior notice.
Breaking her silence on the matter through a video shared on social media, Nafisat provided a different account of events and explained the reasons behind her decision to leave the marriage.
According to her, she had already exited the relationship several months earlier after enduring emotional pain and what she described as repeated mistreatment. She stated that no individual should remain in a relationship where violence is present, suggesting that abuse contributed to her decision to walk away.
Nafisat further alleged that despite everything she experienced during the marriage, the actor eventually went on to marry someone she considered her best friend.
She also addressed public discussions surrounding the age difference between herself and Olaiya, insisting that it was never a factor in the breakdown of their relationship. According to her, she entered the marriage willingly because of her genuine feelings for him and believed their age gap had no connection to the eventual separation.
