Osun Election: Fadahunsi Sparks Fresh Controversy Over Comments at Polling Unit
Senator Francis Fadahunsi, who represents Osun East in the National Assembly, has sparked another controversy following comments he allegedly made to voters at his polling unit during the ongoing Osun State governorship election.
In a video circulating on social media, Fadahunsi was seen addressing supporters and urging them to closely monitor the voting process at the polling unit.
The senator was heard saying, “Whoever does not vote appropriately is not an indigene of Ilase-Ijesa,” before giving further instructions to those gathered around him.
The comments have triggered reactions from the Imole Campaign Council, which accused the lawmaker of attempting to influence voters during the election.
The council’s spokesperson, Pelumi Olajengbesi, described the senator’s remarks as “scandalous, unacceptable and undemocratic,” .
The campaign council also called on security agencies to review Fadahunsi’s conduct and take appropriate action to ensure voters are able to exercise their franchise freely and without intimidation or interference.
The latest controversy comes days after Fadahunsi was involved in another incident over a remark in which he allegedly urged his supporters to “kill Accord” ahead of the election.
The statement generated widespread criticism, with opposition figures and other commentators describing it as inflammatory and potentially capable of encouraging political violence.
Following the backlash, the Osun State Police Command invited the senator for questioning over the remark. Amnesty International also condemned the statement and called for accountability, saying it would use the incident in its campaign against inflammatory political rhetoric.
Fadahunsi subsequently denied calling for physical attacks against members of the Accord Party.
The senator explained that his use of the phrase “kill Accord” was figurative and was intended to encourage his supporters to defeat the opposition party through their votes rather than through violence.
He maintained that his message was for supporters to “kill Accord with votes.”
