The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the final list of 18 presidential candidates who will contest Nigeria’s 2027 general election.
The latest publication represents another major milestone ahead of the presidential election scheduled for January 16, 2027.
Previous lists released by the electoral commission had contained 19 presidential candidates, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party’s Peter Obi.
With the final list now published, Nigerians have an official record of the presidential candidates and their respective running mates ahead of the campaign season and the eventual election.
The development signals that preparations for the 2027 presidential contest are moving into a more advanced stage as the candidates position themselves for the race to occupy Nigeria’s highest elected office.
