BAUCHI NDC GOVERNORSHIP CANDIDATE IBRAHIM KASHIM RESIGNS FROM PARTY

The governorship candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Bauchi State, Barrister Ibrahim Muhammad Kashim, has resigned his membership of the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Kashim’s resignation took effect on October 16, 2026, according to a letter addressed to the NDC chairman in Bauchi Local Government Area. The development was made public on Monday, October 19.

In his resignation letter, the former Secretary to the Bauchi State Government described his decision as a personal choice reached after careful consideration. He also expressed appreciation to the party’s leadership and members for the opportunity to have been associated with the NDC.

Kashim requested that the party formally acknowledge his resignation and update its membership records accordingly.

Despite leaving the party, the former governorship candidate has maintained that his commitment to the development of Bauchi State remains unchanged.

In a separate message addressed to his supporters and residents of the state, Kashim said his decision to leave the NDC would not weaken his determination to work towards a better future for the people.

He stressed that Bauchi State needed purposeful leadership, a stronger economy, improved security and greater opportunities for young people and women.

Kashim also expressed his desire to see a state where residents could live with dignity and hope, adding that his political journey was far from over.

He assured his supporters that he would continue engaging with individuals and groups who shared his vision of a peaceful, prosperous and economically vibrant Bauchi State.

The former government official urged his supporters to remain calm, united and steadfast while awaiting further communication on the next phase of their political journey.

He said the direction of his political movement would be announced in due course, without disclosing whether he intended to join another political party or pursue his governorship ambition through a different platform.

Kashim previously served as Secretary to the Bauchi State Government under Governor Bala Mohammed before pursuing his governorship ambition outside the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He later joined the Social Democratic Party (SDP) before moving to the NDC, where he secured the party’s ticket for the 2027 Bauchi State governorship election. Tata Alhaji was named as his running mate.

His resignation raises questions about the future of the NDC’s governorship ticket and the party’s preparations for the forthcoming election.

However, the precise implications of his departure for the party’s participation in the election remain to be clarified by the relevant authorities.

There have also been speculations about Kashim’s possible political realignment, including a potential move to the All Progressives Congress (APC). However, no new political affiliation has been officially confirmed.

As of the time of reporting, Kashim had not announced his next political move, while the NDC’s position on the future of its governorship ticket remained a key issue following his resignation.
