The Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially adopted the Senator representing Ogun West, Solomon Adeola, popularly known as “Yayi,” as its consensus governorship candidate for the 2027 general elections.

The decision was announced during a strategic caucus meeting held at the party secretariat in Abeokuta and presided over by the state chairman, Yemi Sanusi. The meeting brought together key political figures, including Governor Dapo Abiodun, former governors Chief Olusegun Osoba, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, and Gbenga Daniel, alongside other party stakeholders and lawmakers.
Governor Abiodun formally presented Adeola as the party’s consensus choice and urged all aspirants to support the decision in the interest of unity and stability within the APC. The announcement was met with celebrations from party members, who expressed strong support for the decision.

In his acceptance speech, Adeola expressed gratitude to party leaders and members for their confidence in him, pledging to uphold unity, peace, and progress in the state if elected governor. He assured stakeholders that he would work to strengthen the party and deliver inclusive leadership for all political groups in Ogun State.

He emphasized his commitment to continuity, development, and maintaining Ogun State’s economic growth trajectory, while promising not to disappoint the party or its supporters.
The APC state chairman, Yemi Sanusi, explained that the caucus meeting was convened to ensure internal harmony ahead of the primaries and the 2027 elections. He stressed the importance of a peaceful and unified selection process to prevent internal conflict.

The development follows earlier reports suggesting that the APC was leaning toward consensus governorship arrangements across some South-West states, including similar political alignments in neighbouring regions.
Following the announcement, former Senator Iyabo Obasanjo confirmed the suspension of her governorship ambition, congratulating Adeola and thanking party leaders and supporters for their backing during her consultation process.
She stated that the party’s decision had guided her withdrawal and expressed hope for continued unity within the APC in Ogun State.
