#BREAKING: Abuja Airport Temporarily Closed After Plane Skids Off Runway

The Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA) in Abuja has been temporarily closed after a cargo plane operated by Allied Air overshot the runway.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, when the aircraft reportedly suffered a tyre burst upon landing, causing it to skid off the runway.

The plane remains stuck near the runway, prompting the airport’s closure until it can be safely towed away.

A source at the NAIA stated:

“We are currently at the airside where the incident happened, and efforts are underway to reopen the runway.”

The closure has caused significant disruptions, delaying several departures as authorities work to resolve the situation.

Fortunately, there were no reported injuries. Emergency officials are on-site managing the incident and ensuring safety.
