The High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has declined to grant bail to Yahaya Bello, the former governor of Kogi State, in a case involving allegations of misappropriating ₦110.4 billion.
Justice Maryanne Anenih dismissed the bail application, noting that it was filed prematurely. The application was submitted on November 22, prior to Bello’s detention by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on November 26 and his arraignment on November 27.
The former governor was arraigned alongside Umar Shuaibu Oricha and Abdulsalam Hudu before the FCT High Court, led by Justice Anenih, on a 16-count charge brought by the EFCC on behalf of the Federal Government. The charges, detailed in case number FCT/HC/CR/778/24, include allegations of criminal breach of trust concerning ₦110,446,470,089, among other offenses.
The case underscores the ongoing anti-corruption drive targeting public officials accused of financial misconduct.
