Former President Muhammadu Buhari has revealed that he now depends on income from renting out one of his houses in Kaduna to meet his feeding expenses after completing his two terms as Nigeria’s president.
Speaking at the All Progressives Congress (APC) caucus meeting held at the Katsina Government House ahead of the February 15 local council elections, Buhari reflected on the challenges of governing Nigeria and emphasized the importance of accountability and good governance.
“Governing Nigeria is no easy task,” Buhari said in Hausa, noting that many Nigerians underestimate the complexities of leadership until they assume administrative positions themselves.
He shared that life after presidency has been simpler, and he feels healthier and more at ease. “People often comment on how much better I look now compared to when I was in office,” he remarked.
Highlighting his commitment to integrity during his presidency, Buhari stated, “I only have three houses—one in Daura and two in Kaduna. I’ve rented out one of them to cover my feeding expenses. No one can accuse me of financial wrongdoing during my time in office.”
The former president urged Nigerian leaders to prioritize transparency and accountability, stating that these are essential for driving the nation toward progress.
