Senator Seriake Dickson, national leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to restore the names of the party’s governorship candidates omitted from the final list for the 2027 general elections. The affected candidates are from Kano, Kaduna and Cross River states. Dickson urged the electoral commission to address the issue promptly, describing it as an apparent omission.

Dickson, a former governor of Bayelsa State and the senator representing Bayelsa West, made the appeal in a Facebook post on Thursday night. He said the party was taking steps to resolve the matter and assured its candidates and supporters that efforts were underway to have the missing names included in the final list. <Cite refs={[“turn325983view0”]} />

The NDC leadership has attributed the omission to an error and said it is engaging with INEC to correct the situation. Dickson maintained that all affected candidates registered with the party within the statutory 21-day period required by law. He expressed confidence that the commission would address the issue without delay.

The senator also defended the party’s candidate selection process, saying the NDC fielded qualified candidates across different levels of the 2027 elections, from the presidential race to state Houses of Assembly. According to him, the candidates emerged through what he described as a rigorous screening process.

Dickson said the party would continue consultations and campaign activities across the states while maintaining discussions with INEC over the omitted names. He added that the NDC would continue pursuing the matter until it was resolved. The commission’s response and the status of the affected governorship candidates remain central to the dispute over the published list.
