ormer Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar Adamu, has stepped up consultations ahead of the 2027 Nasarawa State governorship race, paying a courtesy visit to former governor, Senator Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, at his residence in Lafia over the weekend.
Adamu, who is seeking the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket, arrived with members of his campaign team and political associates as part of efforts to strengthen support for his ambition within the party.

During the visit, Al-Makura welcomed the delegation warmly and used the opportunity to speak on internal party processes, urging aspirants to respect due process and maintain peace as preparations for the primaries gather momentum.
The former governor described Adamu as a committed APC member and commended his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, alongside his supporters drawn from different parts of the state.
He stressed the importance of continuous political engagement to explain government policies and reforms to citizens, while calling for unity within the party.
On the upcoming APC primaries, Al-Makura assured all aspirants of a fair contest, insisting that the process would be free, transparent, and credible.
According to him, the party is still at the early stage of political activities, where individuals are only expressing interest, and not yet at the point of selecting a final candidate.

He urged aspirants and their supporters to avoid rushing the process, warning against what he described as “jumping the gun” before formal procedures are concluded.
Al-Makura also reacted to Governor Abdullahi Sule’s recent endorsement of Senator Aliyu Wadada as his preferred aspirant, describing the move as premature. He said while leaders have the right to support individuals, the party process must be fully followed before any final decision is made.
He emphasised that only a candidate chosen through primaries can be regarded as the party’s official flagbearer, adding that all aspirants must be given equal opportunity.
“As far as I am concerned, I am for all of them. They are all equal in the process,” he said, adding that President Tinubu remains committed to fairness and internal democracy.

Speaking further, Al-Makura outlined the APC selection process, noting that the party is currently at the stage of interest declaration, followed by aspirant screening, primaries, and eventually the emergence of a candidate for the general election.
He urged stakeholders to respect these stages and allow the process to run its full course.
In his remarks, Adamu thanked the former governor for his reception and reiterated his commitment to the APC and the Renewed Hope Agenda.
He, however, raised concerns about bias within the party structure in Nasarawa State, alleging that some officials were openly supporting certain aspirants, contrary to the principle of neutrality.
Adamu also expressed confidence in his growing support base, insisting that the people of Nasarawa remain the ultimate deciders in the political process.
He pledged to follow all party guidelines and maintain a peaceful campaign ahead of the primaries.
The visit comes amid rising political tensions within the APC in Nasarawa State, as several aspirants position themselves for the governorship ticket, with calls growing for unity, fairness, and adherence to internal party democracy.
