Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has approved free stadium entry for fans who will attend Rivers United’s final Nigeria Premier Football League match of the 2025/26 season against Katsina United at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium on Sunday.
The decision is aimed at boosting fan support as Rivers United continue their push for a possible second league title, with the club still in contention going into the final day of the season.
Rivers United head coach Finidi George has shifted full attention to the decisive fixture after his team secured a 2-0 win over G12 FC in the President Federation Cup Round of 64.
He praised his players’ performance in the cup match but stressed that preparations are now fully focused on the league decider against Katsina United.
Going into the final round of matches, Rivers United are just one point behind league leaders Rangers International and must secure a win while hoping for a favourable result elsewhere to clinch the title.
In a statement from the club’s media department, the Rivers State Government confirmed that stadium access will be free, with Governor Fubara directing efforts to ensure massive attendance for the crucial encounter.
The government also approved free shuttle buses from several locations across Port Harcourt to help transport supporters to the stadium ahead of the 4pm kickoff.
Designated pickup points include key areas such as UST Convocation Arena, UNIPORT Market Square, Mile 3, Mile 1, Sharks Stadium, Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Rumuomasi Market Junction, and Rumuola Roundabout.
Rivers United have called on supporters across the state to turn out in large numbers as they aim to secure victory that could potentially crown them NPFL champions depending on results from other fixtures.
