A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over alleged financial activities dating back several years.
The APC figure urged the anti-graft agency to examine what he described as historical financial allegations involving the former vice president, arguing that the claims should be properly investigated rather than ignored.
He maintained that the EFCC has a responsibility to investigate allegations involving prominent political figures when there are issues requiring clarification.
The call comes amid renewed political exchanges surrounding Atiku and his activities ahead of Nigeria’s political developments, with members of the ruling party increasingly scrutinising opposition figures.
The APC chieftain said investigating the allegations would help establish the facts and determine whether there was any wrongdoing.
He also stressed that the request was intended to ensure accountability and transparency, insisting that no individual should be above investigation where credible allegations have been raised.
Atiku, a former vice president and prominent opposition politician, has faced various political and financial allegations over the years, many of which have generated controversy among Nigeria’s major political parties.
