IRAN SIGNALS READINESS TO REOPEN STRAIT OF HORMUZ IN EXCHANGE FOR US TRUCE DEAL

Iran has reportedly tabled a fresh diplomatic proposal to the United States, offering to reopen the strategic Strait of Hormuz and bring an end to the ongoing conflict, on the condition that Washington lifts its blockade on the vital waterway.

The proposal, first reported by Axios, was said to have been conveyed to US officials through Pakistan, according to a US official and two other sources familiar with the matter.

Under the reported terms, Iran is also suggesting that nuclear negotiations be deferred to a later stage, as part of a broader attempt to de-escalate tensions.

However, it remains unclear whether US President Donald Trump will consider the offer. Ending Iran’s uranium enrichment programme has remained a key demand of Washington throughout the conflict.

The Strait of Hormuz—one of the world’s most critical oil transit routes—has become a central flashpoint in the crisis. Control and access to the waterway have been heavily contested since the conflict escalated in February.

Iran’s earlier actions around the strait reportedly disrupted global oil flows, pushing up energy prices and forcing several countries to adopt emergency conservation measures. In response, the US blockade has aimed to restrict Iran’s oil exports, cutting off a major source of revenue for Tehran.

President Trump has previously warned that the strait would remain effectively shut off to Iran until a comprehensive agreement is reached, describing it as a key leverage point in negotiations.

Diplomatic efforts to end the standoff have so far made little progress, with both sides remaining far apart on core demands.

Trump is expected to convene a high-level Situation Room meeting with his national security and foreign policy team on Monday to review the deadlock and consider possible next steps.

The war has already taken a heavy toll across the region, with thousands reportedly killed in Iran and neighbouring countries, alongside casualties involving civilians, soldiers, and international peacekeepers.

As tensions persist, the latest Iranian proposal adds a new dimension to an already fragile diplomatic landscape, raising questions about whether a breakthrough is possible—or whether the conflict will continue to deepen.
