#JUST IN: Bayelsa Governorship Candidate, Running Mate, and Others Resign from Labour Party

The Labour Party (LP) in Bayelsa State has faced a significant setback as its governorship candidate in the recent election, Udengs Eradiri, and his running mate, Commodore Benjamin Nathus (retd), announced their resignations from the party.

Reports indicate that several local government chairmen of the party in Bayelsa have also followed suit, aligning with Eradiri and Nathus in leaving the LP.

Eradiri’s resignation was communicated in a letter dated December 8, 2024, addressed to the state chairman of the party in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State’s capital. Titled “Letter of Withdrawal as Labour Party Member,” the letter explained that his decision was driven by the need to pursue his political ambitions on a platform better prepared to deliver the leadership Bayelsa deserves.

Expressing gratitude to party members for their trust and support during his candidacy, Eradiri stated:
“Unfortunately, we couldn’t overcome the intrigues and challenges embedded in the party’s leadership.”

He reflected on the meaningful moments spent collaborating with members and engaging with communities across the state in the pursuit of leadership. His resignation, he added, was made in consultation with his loyalists.

Eradiri also revealed ongoing consultations to determine his next political platform, emphasizing his commitment to choosing a party that aligns with his vision for serving Bayelsa.
“We are consulting stakeholders to identify the next party of interest—one that will enable us to deliver meaningful service and move Bayelsa forward,” he said.

In a separate resignation letter, Nathus explained that his decision was motivated by the desire to find a platform dedicated to advancing Bayelsa’s development and prosperity.

“I am profoundly grateful to the party members who supported our vision for a thriving Bayelsa and entrusted me with the role of deputy governorship candidate. The journey has been rich with invaluable experiences,” Nathus stated.

He expressed honor in working with committed colleagues and engaging communities in the pursuit of transformative governance.

The wave of resignations marks a challenging period for the Labour Party in Bayelsa, as it navigates the loss of key figures and their supporters.
