England began their 2026 FIFA World Cup journey on a winning note with an exciting 4-2 triumph over Croatia, handing the Croatians another disappointing start to a tournament campaign.

The victory marked an impressive opening for Thomas Tuchel at his first major competition with England as he continues his quest to guide the Three Lions to long-awaited international success.
England took the lead after a penalty was awarded when Noni Madueke was brought down inside the box. Harry Kane’s initial spot-kick was saved, but the decision was retaken after officials ruled that Croatian players had infringed during the attempt. Kane made no mistake with his second opportunity, scoring on his landmark 30th appearance at a major international tournament.

Croatia responded with a superb equaliser as Martin Baturina unleashed a powerful effort that beat Jordan Pickford.
England regained control shortly afterward when Kane headed in from a Declan Rice corner, drawing level with one of the country’s long-standing World Cup scoring records.

The Croatians refused to back down and pulled level again before halftime through Petar Musa, who finished calmly after a well-worked attacking move.
Just minutes into the second half, Jude Bellingham restored England’s advantage. The midfielder collected a precise pass from Elliot Anderson before finding the net from a difficult angle, further adding to his growing list of achievements on the international stage.

Although Croatia remained competitive and goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic produced several important saves, England eventually sealed the victory with a fourth goal to secure all three points and begin their World Cup campaign in style.
