In a solemn display of duty, compassion and resolve, Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, travelled to Zamfara State to personally mourn the police officers who paid the ultimate sacrifice in the battle against terrorism and banditry.
The police chief joined grieving families, colleagues and residents during the Islamic funeral prayers held for the officers killed in the line of duty. Their deaths, caused by an attack linked to armed bandits, have once again highlighted the enormous price security personnel continue to pay in defence of the nation.
Amid tears and tributes, the IGP assured the bereaved families that the Nigeria Police Force would stand firmly behind them and that the sacrifices of their loved ones would never be forgotten. He described the slain officers as courageous patriots who laid down their lives while confronting criminal elements threatening peace and stability in Zamfara State.
“Their sacrifice will not be in vain,” Disu declared, reaffirming the determination of the Force and other security agencies to intensify operations against banditry, kidnapping and violent crimes.
Addressing officers and men of the Zamfara State Command, the IGP urged them to remain resilient, disciplined and professional despite the painful loss of their colleagues. He stressed that criminal gangs would not be allowed to undermine the resolve of the nation’s security forces.
Disu also commended the command for recent operational successes, including arrests of suspects, recovery of explosives, rescue of kidnap victims and operations against armed groups. According to him, the achievements demonstrate the effectiveness of intelligence-led policing and inter-agency cooperation in tackling insecurity.
Nigeria continues to battle multiple security threats, with hundreds of security personnel from the military, police and other agencies having lost their lives over the years while defending communities across the country.
Yet, beyond the statistics are men and women who left behind wives, children, parents and dreams.
The scene in Zamfara was more than a funeral. It was a reminder that the uniform is worn by human beings whose daily courage often goes unnoticed until tragedy strikes.
As the nation mourns these gallant officers, one message rang loud and clear from Zamfara: the fight against terror will continue, and the memory of those who fell in service to Nigeria will endure.
