Tourism and Hospitality Shine
‘Detty December’ is a festive period marked by numerous events and celebrations, especially by Nigerians returning from the diaspora. Lagos, as the host of many of these activities, reaffirmed its position as Africa’s entertainment and tourism hub.
“Lagos State once again proved its status as the tourism and entertainment capital of Africa, generating over $71.6 million in revenue across tourism, hospitality, and entertainment sectors during the December 2024 season,” read a statement from the Lagos Press Office.
Hotels led the revenue surge, contributing over $44 million, while short-let apartments added $13 million, showcasing the city’s vast economic potential as a top destination.
Economic and Cultural Impact
Aregbe highlighted the dual impact of the season, noting its contribution to both Lagos’ cultural vibrancy and economic growth.
“Tourism remains a vital driver of economic growth and cultural preservation for Lagos State, with the ‘Ember’ season playing a key role,” he said.
The festive period celebrated unity and the innovative spirit of Lagosians, from local artisans to creative entrepreneurs shaping the entertainment and tourism industries.
Strategic Insights for 2025
Looking ahead, Aregbe emphasized that the insights from the 2024 season would be integral to the state’s “Lagos Tourism is Rising” campaign in 2025.
“As we reflect on these successes, we aim to build on this momentum, create more opportunities for Lagosians, and ensure our city remains a beacon of tourism, culture, and economic excellence,” he said.
The state government plans to leverage the festive season’s success to further solidify Lagos as a leading global destination for tourism and entertainment.
This record-breaking performance underscores Lagos’ resilience and adaptability, even in challenging economic times, while cementing its reputation as the heart of Nigeria’s cultural and economic activities.
