The Lagos State Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Summa Group to facilitate the development and construction of the Lekki-Epe International Airport, a key Public-Private Partnership (PPP) initiative.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu highlighted that the project aligns with the state’s vision to enhance connectivity, boost economic growth, and attract global investments. He noted that once operational, the airport will help decongest Muritala Muhammed International Airport, create business opportunities, and provide significant benefits to Lagos residents.
“This landmark initiative is a crucial step in improving connectivity, stimulating economic development, and positioning Lagos as a global investment hub,” the governor stated.
Originally announced on October 7, 2022, the airport will be situated on 3,500 hectares of land in the Lekki-Epe corridor. Designed to accommodate at least five million passengers annually, it will be developed through a PPP model, involving both local and foreign investors.
On January 25, 2024, Governor Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed that preparations for the project’s groundbreaking were underway, with key federal approvals in progress.
