LAGOS WINS AFRICA’S TOP GREEN BOND HONOUR AT PRESTIGIOUS EMEA FINANCE AWARDS

Lagos State has been recognised at the EMEA Finance Achievement Awards 2025 after winning the Best Green Bond in Africa award for its debut ₦14.815 billion Green Bond issuance.

The award was presented during a ceremony in London and was received on behalf of the state by Hauwa Bello, Country Head of the Public Sector Group at Stanbic IBTC.

Speaking while presenting the award to Lagos State officials, Bello congratulated the state government on the achievement, describing it as recognition of its successful debut Green Bond issuance. She encouraged the state to maintain its prudent financial management practices, which contributed to the international recognition.

Receiving the award on behalf of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Permanent Secretary of the Debt Management Office, Alake Sanusi, expressed appreciation to Stanbic IBTC for representing Lagos State at the event.

Sanusi described the award as evidence of the state’s commitment to transparent, accountable, and efficient management of public finances. She added that the recognition would inspire the government to sustain its financial discipline and strive for greater achievements in the future.

She dedicated the award to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Commissioner for Finance, and the people of Lagos State, noting that the honour reflects the collective efforts toward promoting sustainable financing and responsible governance.

The recognition further highlights Lagos State’s growing reputation in sustainable finance and its commitment to funding environmentally friendly development projects through innovative financing initiatives.
