A Max Air plane with registration number 5N-MBD, B733 carrying 53 passengers crash-landed at Malam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) after one of its tyres burst into flames upon landing.
The incident occurred at 10:57 p.m. on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, when the airplane which departed from Lagos reportedly lost its nose landing gear tyre during landing.
One of the passengers, Aliyu Inuwa Mansir revealed “The front tire burst into flames upon landing, filling the cabin with smoke. We had to evacuate quickly through the emergency exit. Firefighters were already dousing the flames as we got out,” Mansir recounted.
“Immediately after touchdown, the tyre burst and caught fire. The aircraft then skidded to a halt on the runway,” said another passenger, who requested anonymity.
However, information was obtained indicating that every passenger on the flight was safely and injury-free removed from the aircraft.
Malam Bello Ramalan, Max Air’s Kano Station Manager, confirmed that everyone onboard was safely evacuated.
He explained that the airline is collaborating with the Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB) and the Aircraft and Equipment Department (AED) to determine the cause of the incident.
