MultiChoice has discontinued Africa Magic Family after 12 years on television, replacing the popular DStv channel with a new entertainment station, Africa Magic+.
The development was announced on Thursday, November 5, 2026, through Africa Magic’s official Instagram account as part of changes to DStv’s entertainment line-up.

In its announcement, Africa Magic bid farewell to viewers of the channel, describing the development as the end of one chapter and the beginning of another. The company also introduced Africa Magic+ as its replacement, promising subscribers more stories, drama and variety.
The new channel commenced broadcasting at 6am West African Time on November 5.
Africa Magic Family had built a strong audience over its 12 years on television, particularly among Nigerian viewers who enjoyed Nollywood films, locally produced drama series and family-oriented entertainment.
The channel was also associated with several popular Nigerian television productions, including The Johnsons and Hustle, which attracted considerable attention during their broadcast periods.

Its closure marks the end of a familiar entertainment destination for subscribers who relied on the station for Nigerian movies, comedy and television dramas.
Although MultiChoice has introduced Africa Magic+ as its replacement, the company is yet to provide comprehensive details about the new channel’s programming schedule. However, Africa Magic has indicated that viewers should expect a wider variety of entertainment content.
The development comes amid a broader restructuring of DStv’s channel line-up and subscription packages, which took effect on November 5, 2026.
The changes form part of MultiChoice’s efforts to refresh its entertainment offerings, introduce new programming options and provide subscribers with a different viewing experience.
