Nigerian Army Appoints New Commanders as Four New Divisions Begin Operations
The Nigerian Army has announced the appointment of new General Officers Commanding (GOCs) for some of its newly created divisions as part of the military’s ongoing expansion aimed at strengthening national security.
The appointments follow President Bola Tinubu’s approval to increase the number of Army divisions from eight to twelve with the creation of the 5, 9, 10 and 83 Divisions.
The newly appointed commanders are:
Major General Yakubu Yahaya – General Officer Commanding 9 Division, Ilorin, and Commander of Operation SAVANNA SHIELD.
Major General Chinedu Ralph Nnebeife – General Officer Commanding 10 Division, Jalingo.
Major General Moses Gara – General Officer Commanding 5 Division, Makurdi, and Commander of Operation WHIRL STROKE.
Major General Auwalu Mahmuda – General Officer Commanding 2 Division, Ibadan.
The Army also announced the activation of three new brigades, with the following appointments:
Brigadier General A.O. Odubiyi – Commander, 11 Brigade, Gboko.
Brigadier General A.M. Haruna – Commander, 29 Brigade, Kainji.
Brigadier General R.M. Aminu – Commander, 10 Brigade, Lafia.
The creation of the new divisions is expected to improve troop deployment, strengthen operational efficiency and enhance the Army’s ability to respond to security challenges across different parts of the country.
