Former President Olusegun Obasanjo and the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) vice-presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, held a closed-door meeting in Kano on Thursday, fueling fresh political discussions ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The meeting took place during Obasanjo’s official visit to Kano and was described by aides as a courtesy engagement. Kwankwaso received the former president at his residence alongside the NDC’s Kano State governorship candidate, Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo.
Details of the discussions were not made public. However, Kwankwaso’s media aide, Saifullahi Hassan, described the interaction as “constructive,” while sharing photographs from the visit on social media.

The high-profile meeting has attracted significant political attention, with many observers viewing it as an important engagement between two influential figures in Nigeria’s political landscape as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.
Although neither Obasanjo nor Kwankwaso disclosed the agenda of their discussions, political analysts believe the meeting may have touched on national issues and the country’s evolving political climate.

The visit comes at a time of increased consultations and alliance-building among political leaders across party lines, with stakeholders positioning themselves ahead of the next general election.
Neither camp has issued further details on the outcome of the meeting, leaving the substance of the discussions open to public speculation.
