Iyabo Obasanjo Withdraws Ogun Governorship Ambition as APC Adopts Yayi
A governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State, Iyabo Obasanjo, has stepped down from the 2027 race following the party’s adoption of Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (popularly known as Yayi) as its consensus candidate.
The decision was reached during a strategic caucus meeting of the party held on Monday at its secretariat in Abeokuta.

The meeting brought together key stakeholders, including former governors Olusegun Osoba, Ibikunle Amosun, and Gbenga Daniel, alongside other aspirants such as Gboyega Isiaka, Tunde Lemo, and Isiak Akinlade.
After about two hours of deliberation, party leaders agreed to adopt Adeola as the consensus candidate for the upcoming governorship election.
Reacting to the outcome, Obasanjo announced that she would suspend her ambition and support the party’s decision.

“I congratulate him and wish him every success. I also thank the state and national leaders of our great party for the opportunity to participate in the nomination process,” she said.
She also expressed appreciation to her supporters across the state for their loyalty and encouragement throughout her campaign.
“To my supporters across Ogun State, I am deeply grateful for your calm, steadfast support and unwavering trust throughout this journey. Together, we move forward with patience, strength and hope,” she added.
Her withdrawal is seen as a move to promote unity within the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
