OGUN 2027: YAYI, ADEBUTU CAMPS FLEX POLITICAL STRENGTH AT DANIEL FAMILY FUNERAL

Supporters of Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, and Peoples Democratic Party governorship aspirant Ladi Adebutu exchanged political chants during a funeral service held in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Friday.

The incident occurred during the burial ceremony of Mrs. Sabainah Opawole, the mother of Yeye Olufunke Daniel and mother-in-law of former Ogun State Governor, Senator Gbenga Daniel, at Ibara Baptist Church. Mrs. Opawole passed away at the age of 93.

The funeral was attended by several prominent figures, including Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, Senator Solomon Adeola, Ladi Adebutu, Ambassador Sarafa Tunji Ishola, Senator Iyabo Obasanjo, Senator Shuaib Salisu, and Mrs. Bola Obasanjo, who represented former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

The atmosphere became politically charged when Adebutu was invited to deliver a tribute to the deceased. His supporters began chanting slogans in support of his reported 2027 governorship ambition.

Supporters of Senator Adeola responded with their own chants backing his potential bid for the Ogun State governorship, briefly disrupting the solemn ceremony.

Gbenga Daniel quickly intervened, urging both groups to refrain from political activities and respect the purpose of the gathering.

He reminded the congregation that the event was meant to honour the memory of his late mother-in-law and appealed to supporters to reserve political campaigns for a more appropriate time.

Following his appeal, order was restored, and the funeral service proceeded peacefully without any further incidents.
