OVER 30 YORUBA MONARCHS FLEE PALACES AFTER BANDITS ABDUCT 11TH OBA TODAY

Tension has spread across several Yoruba communities following the reported abduction of another traditional ruler in Ondo State, an incident that has intensified concerns over the safety of monarchs in the region.

The latest development comes after a series of attacks that have seen several monarchs either abducted or killed in recent years.

The most recent victim, Oba Adeniyi Adelana, the Baale of Ode Oriya Village in Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State, was reportedly kidnapped from his residence on Saturday evening by armed men. During the attack, his wife was allegedly shot in the hand and is receiving treatment.

The incident adds to a growing list of traditional rulers who have fallen victim to insecurity across Ondo, Ekiti, Kwara and Kogi states. Security concerns have continued to mount as communities witness repeated attacks on respected traditional leaders who serve as custodians of culture, history and local governance.

Among the monarchs affected in recent years are Oba Kehinde Jacob Falodun of Agamo in Ondo State, Oba Olusegun Aremu-Cole of Koro in Kwara State, Oba David Babatunde Ogunsakin of Esun-Ekiti, Oba Samuel Olatunde Olusola of Imojo-Ekiti, Oba Adegoke Adeusi of Ifon, the Baale of Ogbayo in Kwara State, Oba Salman Olatunji Aweda, Oba James Dada Ogunyanda of Okoloke in Kogi State, Oba Kamilu Salami of Bayagan-Ile and Oba Simeon Olaonipekun of Afin.

Community leaders and residents have expressed concern that the increasing attacks on traditional institutions could undermine local security structures and weaken confidence among residents.

Security analysts believe the trend highlights the need for stronger intelligence gathering, improved surveillance and enhanced protection for traditional rulers in vulnerable communities. They also stress the importance of closer collaboration between security agencies, local vigilantes and community leaders to tackle the growing kidnapping threat.

The latest abduction has renewed calls for urgent action to curb insecurity and ensure the safety of traditional rulers whose influence remains critical to peace and stability within their communities.
