The Nigeria Police Force has announced the launch of a new welfare-driven transportation initiative designed to ease the daily commuting challenges faced by its personnel in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
According to an internal wireless message dated April 23, 2026, obtained from the Force Transport Unit, the scheme—known as the Police Welfare Bus Scheme—is set to commence operations on Monday, April 27, 2026.
The initiative is aimed at providing structured and reliable transport for officers travelling between their residences, barracks, and duty posts within the FCT and surrounding areas.
Under the arrangement, three Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered buses have been deployed and assigned to specific routes across Abuja.
One bus will operate from the NPF Divisional Headquarters in Goshen, passing through Auta-Balefi, Masaka, Mararaba, and Nyanya before arriving at Area 11, the Force Headquarters.
A second bus will run from the Zuba Divisional Headquarters, covering Kubwa and Dutse Junction en route to Area 11.
The third bus is assigned to the Kuje axis, moving through the Kuje Police Barracks, Lugbe, and the Airport Road corridor before terminating at Area 11.
All buses are scheduled to depart daily at 6:15am, a measure intended to improve punctuality and reduce the stress officers face in getting to work.
The directive also instructed Commissioners of Police in the FCT and Lafia to ensure adequate and secure parking spaces are provided at all designated departure points.
The Police authorities described the initiative as part of broader efforts to improve welfare and boost operational efficiency within the Force, particularly as officers continue to grapple with transportation and logistical challenges in the capital city.
