TINUBU DELEGATES POWER: KALU TO LEAD APC COORDINATION IN ABIA

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reportedly assigned former Abia State Governor, Orji Uzor Kalu, with the responsibility of coordinating the activities of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State, in what is widely viewed as part of early groundwork for the 2027 general elections.

Kalu, who currently represents Abia North Senatorial District and chairs the Senate Committee on South East Development Commission, disclosed that the directive followed a recent meeting with the President at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

In a statement shared on his Facebook page, he expressed gratitude for the assignment and pledged to work toward strengthening the party’s structure in the state.

He said his focus would be to promote unity within the APC in Abia and ensure the emergence of strong candidates capable of securing victory in future elections, including support for the President’s re-election bid.

The move is seen as part of ongoing efforts by the ruling party to deepen its influence in the South-East, particularly in Abia State, where it has historically faced stiff political opposition.

Meanwhile, there are indications that the APC may be considering granting automatic return tickets to some serving senators ahead of the next election cycle.

Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, hinted at this during a meeting with political stakeholders, suggesting that certain lawmakers may be retained in recognition of their contributions to legislative stability and governance.

Those reportedly being considered include Adamu Aliero, Abdulaziz Yari, Opeyemi Bamidele, Yahaya Abdullahi, Danjuma Goje, Adetokunbo Abiru, and Idiat Oluranti Adebule, among others.

According to Idris, the lawmakers have played key roles in supporting collaboration between the executive and legislative arms and contributing to the passage of important policies.

However, neither the Presidency nor the APC national leadership has officially confirmed the reported automatic ticket arrangement.

Political observers believe these developments reflect a broader strategy by the Tinubu-led administration to strengthen party unity at the state level while maintaining stability within the National Assembly ahead of the 2027 elections.
