Tinubu Dissolves Presidential Asset Disposal Committee
President Bola Tinubu has approved the immediate dissolution of the Presidential Implementation Committee (PIC) on the Alienation of Federal Government Properties, ending the operations of a committee that has overseen the sale, lease and privatisation of federal government landed assets for more than two decades.
The decision was announced in a statement on Thursday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to the statement, all matters previously handled by the committee will now be coordinated by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi.
The Presidency also directed the committee’s Secretary, B.S. Dutsin-Ma, to immediately stop acting or presenting himself as a representative of the dissolved committee or the Federal Government on issues relating to its activities.
“The President has approved the immediate dissolution of the Presidential Implementation Committee (PIC) on the Alienation of Federal Government Properties. Henceforth, all matters relating to the activities of the committee will be coordinated by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice,” the statement said.
The committee was established in 2000 under former President Olusegun Obasanjo to implement the Federal Government’s monetisation policy, particularly the disposal and management of government-owned landed assets.
It was chaired by the then Minister of Housing and included representatives from several ministries, including Transportation, Justice, Health and Agriculture, as well as the Nigeria Police Force. Professor P.T. Ahire served as its pioneer secretary.
The Presidency recalled that in March 2001, the Federal Executive Council approved a panel of inquiry to review the committee’s operations and produce a White Paper. The panel submitted its report after 21 months.
Following a review, the Tinubu administration concluded that the committee had gone beyond its original mandate and that its activities had triggered multiple legal disputes across the country.
According to the Presidency, the continued existence of the committee could no longer be justified.
“After careful consideration, the Government has noted that the activities of the PIC had extended beyond its original mandate, resulting in multiple litigations across the country,” Onanuga said.
The dissolution takes effect from November 5, 2025, with the Attorney General’s office now responsible for handling all outstanding matters previously managed by the committee.
