We live in a world riddled with contradictions, one that seems to thrive on injustice and systemic oppression. How else do we explain the atrocities that define our global history and current realities?
Hundreds of thousands have been killed and displaced for the creation of the State of Israel, with their lands confiscated without consent or compensation. Native Americans were driven into obscurity, their heritage eroded, and their lands repurposed by strangers. Africans were forcibly uprooted from their homelands, enslaved, and subjected to inhuman conditions to build the wealth of foreign nations, leaving their own societies in ruins.
Today, the legacy of these injustices persists. Pesticides poison the food we eat, and those who choose healthier alternatives must pay exorbitantly for organic options. Congo, one of the richest nations in mineral wealth, remains one of the poorest in living standards, with its children malnourished, uneducated, and its population largely living below the poverty line.
And what of the United Nations, the so-called bastion of global unity? When the world voted for a ceasefire in Gaza, one veto from the United States rendered that decision null and void, and no one dared to condemn it. The International Criminal Court (ICC) calls for the arrest of war criminals, but when the USA opposes, not only is the arrest prevented, but the ICC itself is reprimanded.
This is the world we live in—a world where the powerful dictate the terms of justice, often to the detriment of the vulnerable. Corporations now weaponize artificial intelligence to commit acts that undermine humanity, prioritizing profit over ethics.
How do we respond to such a world? By taking action—individually and collectively. We must use our God-given talents, skills, and resources to drive change in our own spheres of influence. Each of us has a role to play in making a positive impact, no matter how small it may seem.
History has shown us that change is possible when individuals stand up against injustice. Let us strive to correct what we can, to speak up for the voiceless, and to demand accountability from those in power. It is our responsibility to create ripples of transformation in this wicked world, ensuring that future generations inherit a planet rooted in equity, compassion, and humanity.
Change begins with us. Let us make it count.
