United States forces have stepped up enforcement of a maritime blockade against Iran, seizing an Iranian-linked cargo vessel after it allegedly ignored repeated warnings at sea.
According to a report by The Times of Israel on April 24, 2026, the operation followed a six-hour standoff during which the vessel failed to respond to multiple alerts issued by US forces.
Speaking on the development, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Dan Caine, said the situation escalated after the ship continued on its course despite warnings, forcing US personnel to take action.
He explained that warning shots were initially fired, but when the vessel still refused to comply, American forces used disabling fire to stop it at sea.
Once immobilised, US Marines reportedly boarded the ship via helicopter and took control of both the vessel and its crew without further resistance.
Caine described the operation as measured and in line with international enforcement procedures tied to the ongoing blockade.
The incident underscores Washington’s firm stance on restricting Iranian trade routes and signals a readiness to escalate enforcement when directives are ignored during maritime operations.
In a related development, Caine disclosed that US forces in the Indo-Pacific also intercepted a tanker suspected of carrying sanctioned Iranian oil. The vessel was boarded and secured, with authorities yet to determine its final disposition as part of broader global enforcement actions.
