Billionaire businessman Aliko Dangote has revealed that his first grandson is currently not interested in joining the family business because he wants to gain professional experience elsewhere first.
Dangote made the disclosure on Tuesday, September 29, while speaking to Kenyan and East African institutional investors in Nairobi during an engagement linked to the planned initial public offering of Dangote Petroleum Refinery.
According to the businessman, his grandson, who is an electrical engineer, wants to work with major professional services firms such as KPMG or PwC before eventually joining the Dangote Group.
Dangote explained that his grandson wants to gain experience and develop a better understanding of finance before returning to the family business.
He said the decision does not mean his grandson has rejected the family business, but rather wants to build his professional experience outside the conglomerate before taking up a role there.
Dangote also highlighted the involvement of his daughters in the family business, noting that Mariya, Halima and Fatima currently hold responsibilities across different areas of the conglomerate.
The businessman has previously stated that succession within the Dangote Group should not be determined by gender, expressing confidence in the ability of his daughters to take on leadership responsibilities.
