WORKERS’ DAY CONFIRMED: FEDERAL GOVERNMENT DECLARES MAY 1 PUBLIC HOLIDAY NATIONWIDE

The Federal Government has declared Friday, May 1, 2026, as a public holiday in commemoration of this year’s International Workers’ Day celebration.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who also congratulated Nigerian workers for their contributions to the country’s development.

The declaration was contained in a statement released on Wednesday evening by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani.

Tunji-Ojo praised workers across different sectors for their commitment, resilience, and dedication, describing their efforts as vital to Nigeria’s economic progress and national growth.

He also encouraged Nigerians to remain committed to patriotism, hard work, and productivity, stressing that these values are important for achieving sustainable national development.

According to the statement, the Federal Government remains committed to improving workers’ welfare, enhancing security, and creating an enabling environment for economic advancement.

The minister further urged citizens to maintain peace and obey the law during the holiday period while reflecting on the importance of unity and diligence in nation-building.
