African Leaders and Dignitaries Celebrate Chief Olusegun Obasanjo’s 88th Birthday at The Delborough Lagos By Headlinenews.News

On March 2, 2025, a distinguished assembly of African leaders and dignitaries convened at The Delborough Lagos in Victoria Island to honor former Nigerian President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, ahead of his 88th birthday on March 5.

During Chief Olusegun Obasanjo’s 88th birthday celebration, several dignitaries honored him with heartfelt tributes:

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu described Obasanjo as “an extraordinary leader and statesman who has made enormous contributions to Nigeria’s development,” noting that his life “is woven deeply into the fabric of Nigeria’s history.”

Princess Gloria Adebajo-Fraser, MFR, expressed her admiration for Chief Olusegun Obasanjo’s unwavering dedication to Nigeria’s unity and progress. She acknowledged his visionary leadership and steadfast commitment as enduring sources of inspiration. On the occasion of his 88th birthday, she extended heartfelt wishes for his continued health and wisdom, celebrating his remarkable legacy.

Dr. Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, a former presidential candidate and businessman, praised Obasanjo as “a towering figure in our national history,” highlighting his “service, resilience, and unwavering commitment to Nigeria, Africa, and global peace.”

Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State lauded Obasanjo as “a reservoir of knowledge and wisdom,” commending his “steadfast commitment to national unity and peace” and recognizing him as “a symbol of hope and a solution-driven leader.”

These tributes underscore the profound respect and admiration that leaders across Nigeria hold for Chief Obasanjo’s enduring legacy and contributions.

The surprise dinner, orchestrated by Dr. Stanley Uzochukwu, CEO of The Delborough Lagos, saw attendance from eminent personalities including former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan and his wife, Patience; former Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf; former Sierra Leonean President Ernest Bai Koroma; Nigeria’s ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar; and former Senate President Dr. Bukola Saraki.

Serving and former Nigerian state governors present were Prof. Charles Soludo (Anambra), Peter Mbah (Enugu), Alex Otti (Abia), Caleb Mutfwang (Plateau), and Donald Duke (Cross River). Notable business magnates such as Aliko Dangote, Tony Elumelu, and Alex Onyema also graced the event. Traditional leaders, including the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, accompanied by Her Royal Majesty Mariam Ogunwusi, were in attendance.

In their remarks, former Presidents Jonathan, Sirleaf, and Koroma lauded Obasanjo’s leadership within ECOWAS and the African Union, extending wishes for his continued health and longevity. Atiku Abubakar credited his political achievements to Obasanjo’s mentorship, expressing hopes for his enduring service to Nigeria and Africa.

Chief Obasanjo expressed gratitude to Dr. Uzochukwu, his daughter Funke Obasanjo, and all attendees, apologizing to those unable to access the venue due to the large turnout.
