#Buhari speaks on leaving APC as El-Rufai claims police abducted his ex-commissioner for joining SDP

Former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has reiterated his commitment to the All Progressives Congress (APC), stating that he remains a loyal member and will continue to support the party.

In a statement on Thursday, Garba Shehu, Buhari’s spokesperson, emphasized that the former president would never turn his back on the ruling party that facilitated his two-term presidency.

“I am an APC member, and I like to be addressed as such. I will try to popularize the party by all means,” Buhari stated.

Without referencing specific individuals or ongoing party discussions, Buhari reaffirmed his loyalty to the APC, expressing gratitude for the support he received throughout his tenure.

His statement follows the recent defection of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai to the Social Democratic Party (SDP). El-Rufai, in an interview with BBC Hausa, revealed that he consulted Buhari before leaving the APC, describing him as a key advisor in his major decisions.

Meanwhile, El-Rufai has raised concerns over the alleged abduction of Jafaru Sani, a former commissioner in his administration. He accused a “police kidnapping gang” linked to Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani of orchestrating the act, claiming Jafaru was being targeted for resigning from the APC and joining the SDP.

El-Rufai also referenced a similar case involving Bashir Saidu, another former official, who was allegedly detained for 50 days before securing bail. He criticized the involvement of certain magistrates and high court judges in Kaduna State, warning that accountability for such actions would come in due time.
