Former Senate President Ahmad Lawan has dismissed widespread speculations suggesting he plans to defect from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Social Democratic Party (SDP), calling the reports false and misleading.
In a statement issued by his media adviser, Dr. Ezrel Tabiowo, Lawan reaffirmed his unwavering loyalty to the APC, a party he has been committed to since its formation.
“For over 25 years in the National Assembly, Senator Lawan has never defected from his political base,” the statement read. “From his days in the House of Representatives in 1999 to his transition to the Senate in 2007, he remained within the fold that later merged into the APC in 2013.”
The former Senate President emphasized that his commitment to the APC is both political and ideological, as he has played a crucial role in strengthening the party and supporting President Bola Tinubu’s administration. He also reaffirmed his backing of Governor Mai Mala Buni’s developmental efforts in Yobe State.
Describing the defection rumors as a desperate attempt to cause political division, Lawan’s camp urged Nigerians to disregard the speculation and focus on the progress made under the APC-led government.
“Senator Lawan is not just a party member; he is a founding pillar. He has no reason to leave the house he helped build,” the statement emphasized.
With this clear stance, Lawan has effectively put an end to any defection speculations, reaffirming his dedication to the APC.
