#Tinubu Swears in Vice Admiral Ibas as Rivers State Sole Administrator

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially sworn in Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (Retd.) as the sole administrator of Rivers State.

The swearing-in ceremony took place at approximately 3:00 PM at the State House in Abuja, with key government officials in attendance, including Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, Attorney General of the Federation Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), and presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga.

The appointment follows Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State on Tuesday, during which he suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu, and all elected members of the Rivers State House of Assembly for an initial period of six months.

Vice Admiral Ibas, who previously served as Nigeria’s Chief of Naval Staff from 2015 to 2021 under former President Muhammadu Buhari, will oversee the state’s administration but will not have legislative powers. Tinubu emphasized that the judiciary will continue to function independently despite the emergency rule.
