In response to public concerns about speed limit enforcement on select roads, the Lagos State Government has reiterated the legality of these regulations and urged motorists to comply for the safety of all road users.
The Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, cited Section 28(2)(a) of the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law (2018), which provides the legal backing for penalizing motorists who exceed speed limits. He also emphasized that the Ministry of Transportation is solely responsible for determining the size, color, and type of traffic signs in Lagos State to ensure standardization and compliance with global best practices.
Addressing misinformation surrounding speed limit enforcement, Osiyemi clarified that speed cameras were installed based on thorough studies identifying high-risk areas. He noted that additional locations may be considered in the future following further reviews. However, he reaffirmed that the primary objective of these cameras is to enhance road safety for both commuters and motorists.
For further inquiries or clarifications, motorists and the general public are encouraged to visit the official Lagos State Ministry of Transportation website, verified social media platforms, or contact relevant traffic management authorities.
