President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, has expressed gratitude to former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari for his unwavering support during both his initial election and subsequent re-election as AfDB President.
In a post shared via X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, Adesina revealed that he recently paid a courtesy visit to Buhari to personally thank him for his consistent backing.

“I visited President Buhari to express my deep appreciation for his incredible support for my nomination by President Jonathan for election as President, African Development Bank,” Adesina wrote.
He further acknowledged Buhari’s steadfast support during critical periods, which he said was instrumental to his successful re-election.
“He strongly stood by me in difficult times, which ensured my re-election. Thank you, Sir,” he added.

Adesina, who served as Nigeria’s Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development under former President Goodluck Jonathan, was first elected as AfDB President in 2015. His re-election in 2020 followed a challenging period of scrutiny and political pressure, during which Buhari played a crucial role in rallying international support on his behalf.
