Osun APC Members Oppose Automatic Ticket for Adeleke

Chairman of Mutual Assurance Benefits, Akin Ogunbiyi, has officially declared his intention to contest for the governorship of Osun State under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2026 election. Speaking at the APC State Secretariat in Osogbo on Thursday, Ogunbiyi expressed confidence in his chances of securing the party’s ticket and unseating the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Addressing a large crowd of enthusiastic supporters, Ogunbiyi emphasized unity among all APC aspirants, stating that their collective goal is to bring an end to PDP’s administration in the state.

We are united in purpose. All of us vying for the APC ticket have agreed that removing the PDP from power is the priority. Whoever the party selects as its candidate must receive the full backing of the rest of us,” he said.

Ogunbiyi dismissed concerns about the growing number of aspirants within the APC, describing it as a sign of the party’s growing popularity under President Bola Tinubu’s leadership. “The way President Tinubu is managing the country has made APC the preferred party for many politicians,” he added.

On his personal chances, Ogunbiyi was optimistic: “I believe my chances are very bright. The level of support I have across the state is overwhelming. I stand as a unifying figure for the APC in Osun. By God’s grace, I enjoy widespread goodwill among our people.”

He also urged eligible citizens, particularly those who have just turned 18, to register and obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs). “Our real joy will come when we win the governorship election next year,” he said.

In his remarks, Osun APC State Secretary, Mr. Kamoru Olabisi, commended Ogunbiyi’s commitment to the party’s vision and assured supporters that the party would intensify its mobilization efforts ahead of the 2026 governorship and 2027 general elections.

Olabisi further revealed that Ogunbiyi had brought over 1,200 supporters from his former party, the PDP, into the APC. He encouraged both long-standing and new members to engage in aggressive sensitization across the state to attract more supporters into the party.
