A fresh wave of tension swept through Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Sunday as operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) stormed the Green Legacy Hotel, situated within the premises of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, and arrested several youths suspected to be internet fraudsters.
The raid was carried out in the early hours of the day during a pool party at the hotel. Eyewitnesses said EFCC operatives arrived in multiple vehicles, entering the premises swiftly before making arrests.
Sunday’s operation comes just five days after the EFCC’s Ibadan Zonal Directorate apprehended a suspected internet fraudster in possession of two locally-made pistols during a raid at K-Hotel in Itori, Ewekoro Local Government Area of the state.
The EFCC has not yet released an official statement detailing the number of arrests or the items recovered in the latest raid.
