Gunmen have abducted a ward councillor in Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State, underscoring renewed insecurity in Southern Kaduna.
The victim, identified as Mr. Gwantu, who represents Gwantu Ward, was taken from his residence in Gwantu town shortly after midnight on Friday.
Sources told Sahara Reporters that the assailants stormed his home and whisked him away in the presence of his family members.
The incident occurred just days after seven victims—mostly minors—were buried in Unguwan Rimi village, Kauru Local Government Area, following a deadly attack last week.
Despite the state government’s ongoing peace pact with bandit leaders under the “Kaduna Model” initiative, communities in Southern Kaduna continue to come under attack.
Governor Uba Sani has consistently defended the controversial deal, describing it as a “carrot-and-stick” approach. However, critics argue that the arrangement lacks transparency and fails to deliver justice to victims of banditry.
As of press time, neither the Kaduna State Government nor security agencies had issued an official statement on the councillor’s abduction.
