CP Olohundare Jimoh Swiftly Restores Order on 3rd Mainland Bridge After Protest Disruption

Lagos, September 8, 2025 — The Lagos State Police Command has assured residents of its firm commitment to public safety and order following today’s protest at Iyana Oworo, which temporarily disrupted traffic on the busy 3rd Mainland Bridge.

Earlier in the day, residents of Oworo staged a protest against recent demolitions in their community, blocking the section of the bridge connecting commuters from the Island to the Mainland. The incident caused significant gridlock, leaving many commuters stranded — including reports of sick individuals in urgent need of medical attention.

Swift Response and Decisive Action

Upon receiving the alert, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, swiftly mobilized to the scene with detachments of the Mobile Police Force, Tactical Units, and PMF personnel. His immediate presence underscored his proactive leadership style and commitment to protecting lives and property.

CP Jimoh personally engaged the protesters, listening to their grievances and appealing for calm. Despite his efforts, the demonstrators remained unyielding, insisting on maintaining the blockade. This led to worsening congestion on one of Lagos’ most critical arteries, raising fears of potential escalation and further risks to public safety.

Ensuring Order With Minimal Force

In the interest of public safety, CP Jimoh ordered the use of minimal, carefully controlled force to disperse the crowd. Police operatives swiftly cleared barricades, restored traffic flow, and ensured order was reestablished. Importantly, the operation was carried out without any loss of life or major injuries, reflecting the Command’s discipline and emphasis on de-escalation.

Reassurance to Lagosians

The Lagos State Police Command has reiterated its neutrality, professionalism, and dedication to safeguarding all citizens while respecting their rights to express grievances. CP Jimoh emphasized that while peaceful protests are recognized under the law, blocking critical infrastructure such as the 3rd Mainland Bridge endangers lives and cannot be condoned.

Residents are urged to channel their concerns through lawful means, as the Police remain open to dialogue and committed to protecting both rights and safety.

Why This Matters

The 3rd Mainland Bridge is Nigeria’s busiest bridge, carrying over 100,000 vehicles daily. Today’s swift intervention by CP Jimoh not only prevented what could have been a major security and humanitarian crisis but also reinforced the Lagos Command’s readiness and capacity to respond to emergencies decisively.

With this intervention, CP Olohundare Jimoh has once again demonstrated that under his leadership, the Lagos Police Command remains alert, responsive, and committed to maintaining peace and order across the State.
