The monarch seems to agree with Prince Harry and Meghan over one key issue.
King Charles has voiced his deep concern over the effects of social media on children, echoing sentiments long championed by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
The 76-year-old monarch reportedly held a private 40-minute meeting at Balmoral Castle in Scotland with Reverend Tommy MacNeil, head of the Shed Project mental health charity on the Isle of Lewis. During their discussion, the King expressed alarm over how online platforms are shaping young lives.
Rev. MacNeil later shared insights from their conversation, telling The Telegraph:
“He was very engaged and 100 per cent appreciative of the work we are doing. Young people today are growing up in a different world to their parents. The stuff they are accessing on their phones is frightening. King Charles was clearly very concerned about the whole issue and negative influences on young people from social media.”
The King’s perspective mirrors that of Prince Harry, 41, and Meghan Markle, 44, who have consistently highlighted the dangers of unchecked online exposure through their Archewell Foundation. Despite stepping back from royal duties, the couple has remained committed to raising awareness and finding solutions to protect children.
Earlier this year in New York, Harry and Meghan unveiled the Lost Screen Memorial, honouring children whose deaths were linked to social media. Speaking at the event, Harry emphasized the urgency of reform:
“We want to make sure that things are changed so that… no more kids are lost to social media.”
With the monarch and the Sussexes aligned on this critical issue, the royal family appears united in addressing one of the most pressing challenges facing today’s younger generation.
