On Saturday, heavily armed bandits killed at least 27 people in a violent attack on communities in Yagba West Local Government Area, Kogi State, a military source confirmed to SaharaReporters. The assailants, equipped with sophisticated weapons, struck in the early hours, intensifying the region’s growing insecurity.
Yagba West, home to Senator Sunday Karimi, has faced repeated bandit attacks recently. On Friday, bandits raided Bareke, Egbe, abducting a woman and her two children from their home around 2 a.m., near Karimi’s residence. The woman’s husband escaped with injuries. On Thursday, in Ejiba, another Yagba West community, bandits attacked a commercial bus, kidnapping all passengers and killing a motorcyclist identified by serial number 256.
Additionally, on October 1, bandits targeted Bethel Farm in Ejiba, abducting three people, and attacked a bread distributor, shooting one staff member. A video from September 26 showed Okunran, another Yagba West community, deserted after residents fled due to ongoing assaults, leaving homes and streets abandoned.
These incidents highlight the worsening security crisis in Yagba West, prompting urgent calls from residents for government intervention to protect lives and property.
